How To Get To Horizon Plaza & What To Know

Outlet Malls Hong Kong Horizon Plaza guide stores Home Style Furniture

Horizon Plaza is located on Ap Lei Chau, an island just off Hong Kong Island. The easiest way to get there is to head towards South Horizons, a residential estate on one side of the island. You can take a bus, car or the MTR.

MTR: Take the South Island MTR line to South Horizons. It’s about a 10-minute walk from South Horizons MTR Station, Exit C.

Bus: Take buses 90 or 90B from Central, alight at Ap Lei Chau Estate and walk over. Alternatively, you can take bus route 671 from Lei Tung Market and alight at Horizon Plaza.

You can also drive to Horizon Plaza — parking is on the third floor.

Horizon Plaza, 2 Lee Wing Street, Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong, horizonplaza.com.hk

The 25-storey plaza is best explored via stairs. Skip the customer lift and walk up one flight of stairs to the first floor, then take the service elevator right to the top and make your way down to our favourites. Or map out where you want to go and start at the uppermost floor of your choice.

Sassy Tip: There are no floors 13, 14, 23 and 24, and remember that parking is on the third floor.

Hop on a ferry or bus to our neighbouring Macau where palatial hotel resorts, exuberant casinos, local delicacies and exhilarating shows await!

Whether you’re visiting for the first time or consider it your second home, we’re glad to bring you our updated guide to Macau. From newly opened resorts, local delicacies, historical sites and exciting attractions, here are all the best things to see and do while you’re there.

Macau (or Macao) is a no-brainer pick when it comes to a short and easy getaway. It’s similar to Hong Kong in the sense that it is also a Special Administrative Region, meaning it has its own currency, administration and legal system to the rest of China. Like Hong Kong, Cantonese is widely spoken there and Hong Kong Dollar is also widely used and accepted, which approximately converts 1:1 Macanese Pataca (MOP).

Macau Guide, Macao Travel Tips: Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Bus To Macau

How To Get To Macau

Getting to Macau has never been easier. Not only can we go by ferry, but since the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) opened back in 2018, we can also cross the border by bus (which operates 24/7!).

How To Get From Hong Kong To Macau By Ferry

Most people know about the ferry from Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan, but you can also catch the ferry from the Kowloon China Ferry Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui and Hong Kong International Airport’s SkyPier. There are two ferry operators to choose from:

How To Get From Hong Kong To Macau By Bus

If you get seasick easily, a quicker and cheaper alternative is to take a bus to Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Simply, take public transport to the Hong Kong Port (more details here), then catch a shuttle bus to Macau Port. From there you can take public transport to your final destination. Alternatively, you can take a cross-boundary coach or hire a cross-boundary car (see the list of cross-boundary hire car operators here) to take you directly from Hong Kong to Macau.

There are also a number of bus services that can get you straight to your hotel in Macau:

  • One Bus – Starting from Jordan, the route passes through Sands Macao, Venetian Macao and Parisian Macao. www.onebus.hk
  • Hong Kong Shared Bus Transfers – Direct busses from Hong Kong with drop-off points at Venetian Macao, Galaxy Macau, MGM Cotai, Grand Lisboa Macau and more. www.klook.com

Sassy Tip: Those driving in a private car to the Hong Kong Port can book a parking spot here and enjoy 30-minute complimentary parking within any three-hour period.

Where To Stay In Macau

Macau is made up of one peninsula and two islands, however, the area between the two islands, Taipa and Coloane, created an additional area known as Cotai. So when we speak of Macau, we refer to four main districts, namely Macau Peninsula, Taipa, Cotai and Coloane. Most attractions, sites and casinos are located in the first three districts. Coloane, however, offers a more cultural experience of Macau. Colonial buildings running along the sides of the cobblestone streets of this coastal village give visitors a glimpse of the city’s Portuguese past.

There’s more to Macau than just casinos. Having been a Portuguese colony for almost 600 years up until 1999, Macau’s identity is deeply rooted in its Cantonese culture but also heavily influenced by Western Europe. This is particularly evident in the colonial buildings scattered around Macau and the fact that Portuguese is a co-official language there.

But give this bustling neighbourhood a chance and you’ll find unique restaurants, bars, shops and showrooms, gyms, galleries and event spaces hidden in the ex-factory spaces. So, whether you’re a weekday worker or simply haven’t found a reason to venture on the South Island MTR Line yet, here are just some of the reasons we’re buzzing about Wong Chuk Hang

Things To Do Wong Chuk Hang: Ap Lei Pai Hike From Ap Lei Chau

Ap Lei Pai Hike From Ap Lei Chau

A number of hiking routes pass through Wong Chuk Hang (including Brick Hill/Nam Long Shan near Ocean Park), but one fantastic path that often gets ignored is the coastal trek from Ap Lei Chau to the smaller island of Ap Lei Pai. If you’re coming from WCH, hop on the tiny Ap Lei Chau ferry for a short trip across the Aberdeen Harbour before getting off at the promenade. Make your way for 15 minutes to Lee Nam Road near South Horizons to start the hike. From there, you can choose to go around the island for a bit of coasteering, or up over the steep top of Mount Johnson. Either way, it’s a scramble down the opposite side of Ap Lei Chau towards Ap Lei Pai.

Sassy Tip: You will get wet and please make sure you cross during low tide.

How To Get To Peng Chau

The only way to reach Peng Chau is by boat — it is an island after all! There are frequent ferries from Central Pier 6 as well as less frequent sailings to other destinations.

Central To Peng Chau Ferry Schedule

Choose the fast ferry from Central to get you over to Peng Chau in under 30 minutes, or opt for a more relaxed journey when you grab a slow ferry, which crosses in 40 minutes for cheaper. You can view the full Central to Peng Chau ferry timetable here.

Mui Wo, Chi Ma Wan, Cheung Chau And Discovery Bay To Peng Chau Ferry Schedule

While these outlying island ferries don’t run as frequently, you could easily plan a day of island hopping in the outer harbour. You can view the Discovery Bay to Peng Chau/Trappist Monastery ferry timetable here. There’s also a route from Peng Chau to Mui Wo, Chi Ma Wan and finally Cheung Chau with departures every two hours or so. Hike To Finger Hill And Ngan Chau Tsai Pavilion

For panoramic views all the way to Disneyland and the Tsing Ma Bridge, make your ascent to the top of Finger Hill. The climb is relatively easy and takes about 45 minutes to make the 96-metre ascent. If you want to continue your adventure, follow the narrow trail to Peng Chau’s easternmost point, Ngan Chau Tsai Pavillion.

Peng Yu Path Walk

A more relaxed option is to make the 2km coastal loop of the northern part of the island, starting around the Seven Sisters Temple and passing by Old Fisherman’s Rock. Along the way, you can choose your favourite stretch of sand (there are around four secluded beaches on this walk), pitch your tent for a night of camping and cook up your own feast at the BBQ pits.

Equally, things seem to close pretty suddenly but the rapid turnover is a great reason to keep coming back to see what’s new in the quaint neighbourhood of Tai Hang!
