How To Get To Horizon Plaza & What To Know

Horizon Plaza is located on Ap Lei Chau, an island just off Hong Kong Island. The easiest way to get there is to head towards South Horizons, a residential estate on one side of the island. You can take a bus, car or the MTR.

MTR: Take the South Island MTR line to South Horizons. It’s about a 10-minute walk from South Horizons MTR Station, Exit C.

Bus: Take buses 90 or 90B from Central, alight at Ap Lei Chau Estate and walk over. Alternatively, you can take bus route 671 from Lei Tung Market and alight at Horizon Plaza.

You can also drive to Horizon Plaza — parking is on the third floor.

The 25-storey plaza is best explored via stairs. Skip the customer lift and walk up one flight of stairs to the first floor, then take the service elevator right to the top and make your way down to our favourites. Or map out where you want to go and start at the uppermost floor of your choice.

Sassy Tip: There are no floors 13, 14, 23 and 24, and remember that parking is on the third floor.

Pack an overnight bag – Pack a separate bag or suitcase with all your daily essentials, including clothes, bedding and toiletries for the day after your move.

Sassy Social: We Made Our Own Scented Candles!

Team Sassy went over to Hiraya Scent & Co. to create our own marble-lous scented candles and ended the afternoon with some mulled wine – a match made in heaven!

There are two things that tickle our fancy during the chillier season; candles and mulled wine. So when we saw a candle-making workshop that ends with clinking glasses of our favourite festive drink, we knew we had to drop by!

Named after an ancient Tagalog saying meaning, “fruit of one’s hopes, dreams, and aspirations”, Hiraya was started by Claudine to statiate her passion and love for natural wax candles. It stocks its own range of products (diffusers, linen sprays and of course, candles!) and also hosts workshops for you to create your own scented candles. Here’s a lowdown on what we thought of the workshop.

A Step-By-Step Guide To Mixing Fragrances

Hiraya’s home is on the fourth floor of PMQ, and around the festive season, it is decorated with baubles, tinsels and a beautiful Christmas tree – oh so nice and cosy! The brand’s founder Claudine was present to guide us through every process and dropped insider knowledge in picking the right candles (did you know that wooden wicks are safer to inhale and ensure an even burn?).

Our first task was to pick three out of about 20 fragrance oils to create our own scent (some of us were a little more indecisive than others!). Then we worked out the ratio to create the desired balance of scents and then carefully dropped it into our beakers (yes, it did feel like a little science project!).

To Marble Or Not To Marble…

The team at Hiraya helped heat the wax (made of coconut and apricot!) for us and when the right temperature hit, we mixed in our fragrance oil. Then came the decision, whether to test the steadiness of our hands and attempt a marble design, or go safe and classic with a solid colour. Either way, we were all very happy with the outcome (especially after adding the crystals and personalised labels!) and we knew what was to come – mulled wine (non-alcoholic option were available too)!

All in all, we loved how seamless, informative and relaxing the whole workshop was and the fact that the wax is non-toxic and eco-friendly. And while we were at it, we looked around the space and found hidden gems – Hong Kong-based small businesses and brands!
